Malawi has been through some hard times as of late. Fuel shortages, loss of maize crops due to flooding, and increased food costs are affecting the entire country. These difficulties impact the daily lives of the teens who came to camp this year.
This camp took place at a thriving Bible college. This was the second time CampsAbroad was able to assist this camp. The local pastors and leaders taught some of the sessions this year. The counselors responded enthusiastically to the teaching and discussion of the counseling material taught during staff training.
The 200 teens arrived in an excited cloud of dust! It was the dry season in Malawi. But the dusty environment did not hamper the excitement of the teens in the least. At one point, half of the campers stopped playing the camp activity to devote their full focus to cheering! The simple games seemed to be their favorites, and they partook with gusto.
As they studied Philippians together, the campers listened well. The leaders also seemed to enjoy the theme. The theme of joy in the midst of trials certainly applied to many challenges these teens are facing in their young lives.
The staff has caught the vision for what camp can do for their local church body. The counselors led their campers faithfully during the group discussions. During free time, many counselors could be seen sitting and having one-on-one conversations with their teens.
It is a privilege to co-labor with Navigator and the group of pastors in Malawi. Please pray for them as they continue to minister to these teens in an ongoing way.
