Nicaragua

Tim, Rachel, and Bailey Endean and Pastor Jesse Nicholson visited Nicaragua for a first time camp. This camp took place during a local religious holiday. The culture and atmosphere of sin that draws teens away from the Lord. The theme of this week of camp was “pulling down strongholds” in an effort to confront sin and temptation that so easily comes up in daily lives.

After a difficult border crossing on the last visit, the team was relieved when little Miss Bailey babbled and befriended the border crossing agent. Her sweet touch enabled the group to enjoy a pleasant border crossing. God uses even the smallest among us to accomplish His purpose.

Franklin, the driver, eagerly showed the team an old cathedral, showed them the lights downtown, and make sure everyone had their fill of fantastic chicken. It was on this trip that the team caught a glimpse of the religious celebration and the culture that so easily ensnares the local teens.

Once on site, camp preparations were underway, and soon the campers arrived. The attendance was lower than hoped for because of holiday travels, but the God-ordained amount arrived. About 45 campers. Since the space was small, it was a comfortable sized group. Because of the small number of campers, they had great attention from their counselors.

The leaders did well handling the details and mixing with the campers. All things came together to make the camp a success! Since everyone was so well prepared, it was easy for the camp director and team to stick to the schedule. Pastor Angelo’s ability to skillfully build relationships and oversee details with good foresight make him an ideal camp director.

Fun time was a hit, as always. The campers and counselors all seemed to enjoy camp. There was a good response from campers throughout the week. Some committed their lives to God, others made things right, and some professions of faith were made. The teens were eager for the campfire service and testimony time. And, as is usual, everyone was sad to see camp end. What a joy to see the Lord work in the lives of these Nicaraguan teens!
